Imagine spending the day cruising along a lazy river at a five-star resort, sipping a cocktail in a private cabana, or relaxing in a world-class spa—without the need to actually book an overnight stay. Welcome to ResortPass, a revolutionary service that allows travelers, locals, and day trippers to enjoy the luxuries of resorts and hotels for a fraction of the cost.
Let's say you are on vacation staying at an AirBnb because you need the larger rooms for a group of you and the cost is much more reasonable. One drawback though, your rental place doesn't come with a pool and the kids were set on doing at least some swimming.
Or perhaps you’re on a staycation and simply want a mini-retreat in your hometown. Well, ResortPass provides access to some of the most exclusive properties around the world without having to stay at their properties overnight. Sounds great, right? Let’s explore how this innovative pass works, its benefits, and where you can take advantage of it globally.
What is ResortPass?
ResortPass is a service that allows people to purchase day passes to luxury resorts, granting access to their amenities (think pools, beaches, gyms, spas, etc) without the need to book a room at their establishment. It’s perfect for those who want a taste of resort life for just a few hours, whether you're traveling or just taking a local staycation. Bear in mind many of these establishments impose a time limit on their usage and you may be required to select an arrival time when you book it. Example: Banff Springs hotel offers their spa pass for a three hour window.
ResortPass can be used to book meeting rooms as well at various hotels and some of these locations even offer the option for booking a day room which would also include all of the hotel's amenities apart from those that would otherwise require separate booking such as spa treatments and the like. These rooms are typically available from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM.
It isn't only hotels that have gotten in on the program. In fact several fitness centers have also become participants allowing you to have access to some world class facilities that your existing accommodations may otherwise lack.
Benefits of ResortPass
Affordable Luxury: One of the main draws of ResortPass is the ability to experience luxury without paying for an overnight stay. Day passes start as low as $15 at some locations, making it an accessible way to enjoy top-tier amenities.
Flexibility: Whether you're traveling and want to fill an afternoon, or you’re a local looking for a quick escape, ResortPass offers flexibility. You can enjoy a resort for a few hours without being tied down by accommodation plans.
Variety of Experiences: ResortPass isn’t just for pool and beach lovers. Many passes include access to resort spas, fitness classes, golf courses, and even waterparks, offering something for everyone, from solo travelers to families.
Wellness Retreats: For wellness enthusiasts, some resorts offer day spa passes that allow you to indulge in saunas, steam rooms, and various fitness classes. It's a perfect way to recharge without committing to a full vacation.
Traveler Convenience: If you have a late flight and want to make the most of your last day without lugging your suitcase around, ResortPass can be the perfect solution. Spend the day at a resort, freshen up, and head to the airport feeling rejuvenated.
Perfect for Locals: Locals can also take advantage of ResortPass for a quick retreat. Whether it’s a mid-week pool day or a weekend spa experience, ResortPass lets you vacation without leaving your city.
Cases where using ResortPass to Book a Day Room Might Come in Handy
Workcation or Remote Work: For those working remotely, a day room at a resort or luxury hotel can offer a change of scenery and a productive environment. You can enjoy a quiet, well-equipped room with high-speed internet, comfortable seating, and sometimes access to business services, all while taking breaks to enjoy resort amenities like the pool or gym. I have actually done this a couple of days at a local hotel when there was some major road construction going on nearby and the noises made it impossible to concentrate in my office. My hotel even had a sauna so I was able to have a nice relaxing hour over lunch too!
Transition Between Hotel Check-Out and Evening Plans: If you have an early hotel check-out and late evening plans, a day room provides a perfect way to bridge the gap. You can store your luggage, take a shower, and rest in the room before heading out for your evening event or a flight. I know when Taylor Swift came to town a lot of people did this at the hotel near the arena just to have a warm place to hang out and 'pre-party'. They'd just leave one group member in the LONG line and then swap out periodically. Why there was a long line I honestly don't understand since they all had assigned seating tickets but they lined up several hours in advance regardless. Go figure.
Parents Needing a Break: For parents traveling with young children, a day room provides a peaceful retreat where you can allow your kids to nap in a comfortable setting or have some quiet downtime. Meanwhile, you can enjoy the resort’s amenities, like the pool or spa, without needing to commit to an overnight stay. I wish we'd had this a decade ago during a road trip one year with our infant. She got very nauseous from the car travel and sicked up all over the place. It would have been lovely to have had a room in a local hotel for a couple of hours where we could have given her a bath and calmed her down all while taking a brief respite from driving.
Local Meeting or Networking Venue: Day rooms can be used as a professional yet relaxed setting for business meetings or networking events. You can host clients or colleagues in a luxury environment, with the added benefit of resort amenities and on-site dining options for a more refined experience than a typical office.
Lengthy Layovers: If you have a long layover but don't want to sit (or try to nap) in the airport all day and might not have enough time to go very far from the airport, booking a day room at a hotel nearby allows you to relax, freshen up, and unwind between flights. You can use the hotel’s facilities, such as showers and pools, or simply nap in comfort before continuing your journey. It is especially nice if you can get a hotel either in the airport itself or nearby with a direct shuttle. I did this with the family in Copenhagen on one trip when we had a 10 hour layover there on our way to Helsinki. We'd just done an overnight flight and arrived at 6:00 AM local so it was very nice to have a place to just crash for a few hours.
Types of Passes Available
ResortPass offers several types of passes to match different preferences:
Pool Pass/Day Pass: Standard access to pools, gyms, lounges, and other resort amenities.
Spa Pass: Access to the resort’s spa facilities, which can include saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, and more. Very often does not include access to the general pool area and almost entirely geared towards adults (18+).
Cabana Rentals: For added privacy and comfort, many resorts offer cabana rentals, which typically include food and beverage service.
Pool or Beach Daybeds: Similar to cabanas, you can rent premium poolside seating for a more exclusive experience. In cases where there may be an exclusive beach you can book daybeds there too.
Fitness Pass: Some cities have fitness centers that will accept this pass for entry.
Event Pass: Various properties may host events such as special meals with shows, or themed parties that can be booked using the pass as well. An example is the Cat Walk: A Halloween Pre-Parade Party that is taking place at the Dominick in NY.

3. Las Vegas, Nevada
If there’s one place that knows how to combine opulence and entertainment, it’s Las Vegas. There was a time when you could get into any hotel's pool without being a guest there. I remember staying at Harrahs in a very cheap room and being able to walk across the street to use the Caesar's Palace pool complex. That was awesome but those days are long gone. With ResortPass though, you can still access some of the city’s most extravagant pools and day clubs, enjoying the glitz and glamour of the Strip. So, there is still a way to stay cheap (ok, cheaper, nothing is cheap in Vegas anymore) and upgrade your pool experience.
Popular locations in Las Vegas:

One of my favorite places to stay, the resort features a sprawling 11-acre pool complex complete with a wave pool, a lazy river, and real sand beaches, offering a unique escape in the middle of the desert. Located at the southern end of the Las Vegas Strip, Mandalay Bay is a premier destination for those looking to experience both relaxation and excitement in one of Vegas's most iconic resorts. With its iconic casino, luxury shopping at The Forum Shops, and vibrant nightlife, Caesars Palace remains a quintessential Las Vegas destination for indulgence and excitement. I love the Forum Shops! The way that the "skies" on the ceiling change and go through sunset. Awesome. Deluxe Lounge Chair (w/ outdoor pool access) Cost: $50+
4. New York City, New York

Cost and Caveat: $170+ and for adults only (21+)

In the cooler months, finish up your swim at the Runway Chalet, an Alpine-themed hideaway with festive fare, plus a retro fireplace and games. Perfect for a recharge while you wait the next leg of your trip. Cost: Adults $50 / Kids $25
5. Maui, Hawaii
Maui, known as the "Valley Isle," is a Hawaiian paradise offering stunning beaches, lush rainforests, and diverse landscapes. Visitors can explore the famous Road to Hana, a scenic drive winding through waterfalls, tropical forests, and coastal cliffs. Hana, located on Maui's eastern shore, is a tranquil town known for its untouched beauty and slower pace. Here, you’ll find secluded beaches like Hamoa Beach and natural wonders such as the Seven Sacred Pools at Ohe'o Gulch, making it a perfect escape for those seeking adventure and serenity in a tropical setting. Pass holders can enjoy a variety of pools, including a lazy river and water slides, along with fine dining, beachfront cabanas, and world-class amenities. Soak it all in, Grand Wailea provides a lavish experience surrounded by the natural beauty of Maui but don't expect this experience to come cheap. To use the pools (9 pools, 7 slides, 3 jacuzzis, Tarzan rope swing, Waterfalls and a Swim-up bar for the adults, you'll need to buy a Activity Pool Standard Cabana which is for four people is $900 but I feel this is perhaps a last minute price if one is available. Anything I've found after Halloween (next week as I write this) comes in at a whopping $2250 for four people. Well, it is a 5 star. Let's find a cheaper one yeah?
The Westin Maui Resort & Spa, Ka'anapali: The Westin is a beachfront paradise located on the stunning Ka'anapali Beach in Maui. It has breathtaking ocean views and tropical gardens, the resort features an extensive pool area with waterfalls, waterslides, and an adults-only infinity pool. With its prime location near Whalers Village and access to water sports and snorkeling, this resort offers the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure in Maui. You can gain access to the pools and beach with a family pass that will cost $300 and you can add extra people (+$100 per over 13 and +$50 for under). Lounge chairs will be on a first come first serve basis. Want something a bit different then a day at the pool, or maybe as an add on for afterwards? You can also buy a pass for an iconic Wailele Luau that runs in the evening from 5:30 - 8:30. Cost is $179 per adult and $94 per kid (under 3 free). That includes the shows, the food and even the "free flow" of booze. Woohoo!
6. Orlando, Florida
Ok, I'm not going into any more detail at this point, I think you get the gist of it by now. There's a bunch of places in Orlando too that accept the pass and these are much more reasonably priced ($25 - $75 ranges). I did see they had the Signia by Hilton on the list. I only note it because I was just there a month ago and it was fantastic. The 3 acre lazy river was lots of relaxing fun after a day at the theme parks. Access to the pool is $55/$25 and their cabanas are only $250 for a family of four. Do the math for two adults and two kids (<13) and you'll see for an extra $90 you'll get the cabana which comes with bottled water and snacks.
Some of the International Locations
Mexico
Mexico’s famous resort areas, such as Cabo San Lucas, Cancún, and the Riviera Maya all have locations that accept the pass.
Caribbean Islands
Popular Caribbean destinations, including Jamaica, Barbados, Bahamas/Nassau (not Atlantis I'm afraid), and the Dominican Republic, have embraced ResortPass, giving you access to many beach resorts without needing to stay. Many of these resorts are all inclusive as well so you'll be able to feast and drink to your hearts content. Example: Club Med Punta Cana gives you 10AM to 6PM access with unlimited drinks and food for $99 per adult and $49 for kids. I don't know about you but I could eat and drink $100 worth of stuff in 8 hours!
Central and South America
There are a few locations that appear to be available throughout these regions. You can currently find resorts in Brazil, Peru, Columbia, Costa Rica, Honduras, and Panama.
Europe and Beyond
Resort pass does not offer any European locations on their webpage and it does not seem to have made much headway there. The same is true for most of the rest of the globe. There are a couple spots in Hong Kong and Indonesia. The lack of a presence elsewhere is likely due to the fact the there is already another similar app in place.
DayPass is a platform hosted on an app and it seems to have taken hold in some other parts of the world. Their offerings tend to be more geared towards sunny destinations favored by the Brits such as Mallorca and Ibiza in Spain and the like. There are also a fair amount of locations for the Southeast Asia area such as Bali, and Thailand.
As with ResortPass, DayPass has not really gained any traction in Europe outside of the few locations in Spain (although there is one in Sicily). My suspicion as to why this is the case is that throughout most of Europe it seems unusual to find guests who stay at hotels and actually stay in the hotel for any length of time.
There are very few hotels I have been to in Europe that had anything other than a very small pool, maybe a hot tub, and if anywhere in Scandinavia, a sauna. I simply never saw hotel guests just hanging around the hotel facilities apart from in the lounge. People go to these destinations to explore the city as opposed to seeking to spend the day at a pool or beach. So, I guess it stands to reason why we would not need a pass to access these kinds of facilities in the hotels there. Just my musings.
Final Tips
Plan Ahead: While many resorts offer same-day bookings, it’s always a good idea to book in advance to ensure availability, especially during peak travel seasons and at highly desired locations.
Check Amenities: Every resort offers different perks, so check what’s included in your pass. Some offer free Wi-Fi, towel service, and even food and drink credits. Make sure you know what is not included and if there are any hidden costs. An example would be those all inclusive places that may tack on a $30 resort fee and another would be a required $100 food and beverage expenditure at a cabana.
Perfect for Families or Not? Many resorts offer day passes to kids’ clubs, waterparks, and family-friendly amenities, making it a great option for a family day out. Many places offer very limited options or none at all for those travelers with anyone under 18. Make sure you are getting the right pass.
Summary
ResortPass can be a great addition to your trip . It can give you some nice perks and access to some facilities that you otherwise might not have been able to afford. If having the resort accessible is what you want, but maybe just for a day or two then it's great. All inclusive can be really nice, even for just a day. These places often have kids clubs too that you can drop off the young ones and have a day to yourself relaxing by the pool. How sweet is that?
That being said, the pass may not be for all. It really comes down to what you are expecting out of your vacation. If you are going somewhere like Orlando, for example, and are taking in the theme parks or other attractions it might not be worth it. Chances are your hotel will already have a fair enough pool that you can enjoy after your days at Disney or Universal. Similarly you won't really need it if your trip centers on taking in the culture of a city and you aren't likely to spend much time in the hotel anyhow. Like I said, it depends on what you are hoping your vacation to be like.
Regardless of what your ideal trip is, when all is said and done, it is nice to have the option available.
